AI Artwork Print Checker
Upload an image you made with an AI tool to see how sharp it will print at A5 to A1, how well its shape fits an A-series poster, and whether upscaling might help. Everything runs in your browser - your artwork is never uploaded.
Printing AI artwork: what to know
AI tools usually export images at fixed pixel dimensions - often around 1024 or 2048 px on a side. That number decides how large the image can be printed before it starts to look soft.
Enlarging an image does not add real detail; it spreads the same pixels over more paper. But larger posters hang on a wall and are viewed from further away, so they do not need 300 DPI. Our thresholds are set per size, the same ones used in our poster editor.
Shape matters too. A-series posters are about 1:1.41, while many AI images are square or wide, so some cropping or borders may be needed. Always check the original downloaded file rather than a screenshot or chat preview, which are often smaller and compressed.
This checker is guidance, not a guarantee - subject matter and fine detail also play a part.
FAQ
Can I print AI-generated artwork as a poster?
Yes. As long as you have the right to use the image, AI artwork prints like any other digital image. What matters is its pixel dimensions and shape, which this checker assesses for each A-series size.
What resolution should AI artwork be for A1?
A1 is a wall poster viewed from a distance, so it does not need 300 DPI. Using our size-aware thresholds, an image of roughly 2000 × 2800 px or more is marked Suitable at A1, and around 2600 × 3650 px or more is marked Sharp. Upload your image above for an exact answer.
Do I need to upscale AI artwork before printing?
Only for sizes where your image is marked as possibly printing soft. Upscaling can make edges look cleaner at large sizes, but it cannot invent genuine detail and results vary, so it is not a guarantee of print quality.
Why does my AI image need cropping?
A-series posters have a fixed shape (about 1:1.41). Many AI tools create square or wide images, so filling the poster means trimming some of the image, or keeping all of it with borders.
Is 300 DPI necessary for AI-generated posters?
No. 300 DPI is a reference for small prints held close. Larger posters are viewed from further away, so they print well at lower effective DPI. Our checker uses different thresholds for each size to reflect this.
